Water Security
Nagaland’s hill terrain depends on springs, small catchments and streams rather than large rivers — making catchment-level soil and water conservation work directly determinative of water security outcomes across the State. The Department leads this work as one of the line departments in the state for achieving Water Security.
Meteorological Network Strengthening
Expanding hydro-meteorological station coverage from 17 stations at present to full coverage of all District HQs and Sub-Divisions, and eventually every Block across the State — providing the baseline rainfall, temperature and evaporation data needed for springshed, catchment and flood-risk planning.
Springshed & Upland Catchment Security
SOP-compliant spring rejuvenation, following the Standard Operating Procedure for Springshed Mapping & Management published by the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) and the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. Work follows a phased, precision-driven sequence — hydrogeological mapping, spring inventorization, discharge monitoring, recharge-area delineation, and structural and bio-engineering interventions — to rejuvenate critical springs and protect their recharge catchments (hill-top and riparian zones), securing drinking water and irrigation sources for hill villages, district by district, with the aim of full statewide coverage by 2047.
Water Body & Wetland Restoration
Rejuvenating mine-spoil-affected water bodies and restoring lakes and wetlands under the PMKSY-HKKP-RRR Scheme, Ministry of Jal Shakti — covering both mine-spoil affected water bodies and natural lakes across the State.
Silt, Sediment & Flood Mitigation
Treating high-erosion river catchments through integrated catchment area treatment under the FMBAP (Flood Management and Border Areas Programme) Scheme, Ministry of Jal Shakti, to reduce sediment load and flood risk downstream.
